Wow--what a swift, pleasant turnaround. The Phillies looked every bit like World Series champs in dispatching the Mets over the weekend. They rode exceptional pitching, timely hitting, and nifty defense to a three-game sweep, shoving New York four games back in the process. The Mets, banged-up and bumbling, were everything the Phils weren't--tentative, clumsy, lost.
It's difficult to choose what to be more excited about: the outstanding starts of Rodrigo Lopez, Jamie Moyer, and Joe Blanton or the return of Jimmy Rollins, who finally looked like a major league ballplayer. Should Rollins continue to produce and the starters continue to pitch as they did, the Phillies will return to the playoffs; Raul Ibanez's return should help quite a bit as well. But three games are not nearly enough to represent a trend, of course; if the yips of recent weeks return, it will be a long summer. | PRS
