While the Sixers drafted for their future, the Phillies remained ever so stuck in their present, with the wheels falling off in a series loss to Tampa Bay. After that brief burst of optimism Tuesday, the Phils reverted to recent form Wednesday night and last night. Crappy pitching, injuries, and, most distressingly, mental errors have been the norm of late. The leadoff hitter, two years removed from an MVP season, has been benched, on merit. It's as if everything that went right last season has taken a simultaneous 180. Meanwhile, the Mets have closed to within a half-game, and the Marlins are charging hard.
